Reading is an amazing experience. I love to read books. I carry books whenever I go travelling. But the problem is books are quite bulky.

While travelling the biggest hindrance I face with books is it takes a lot of space in my backpack.

And I can not take more than a few set of books with me. So every time before a trip I have to make a hard choice of selecting a few books I would love to read on the go.

In my college days, I tried reading eBooks as an option on my phone but I didn't get the feel of the original books. There’s a lot of distraction, and it strains my eyes.

People resist change. But its the change that makes life worthwhile.

When I came to know about Amazon’s Kindle I was not sure why should I get it? As I already had a pretty bad experience with eBooks.

After a lot of back and forth, and reading reviews on amazon I finally bought Kindle Paperwhite.

And literally it was worth it.

Here are 11 reasons why you should buy a Kindle:

  1. No Eye Strain

The main difference is, its not same as your smartphone or any other digital screen. Its Electronic paper or e-paper that are display devices that mimic the appearance of ordinary ink on paper.

Unlike phones or tablets, the Kindle is really easy on your eyes and is very comfortable to read on (its almost like you’re reading an actual book).

Also, the display on the latest Kindle Paperwhite is specially designed to prevent glare, even in sunlight.

2. Convenience

Its sleek, perfect size to hold and lightweight. You can adjust the font size as per your need.

3. Battery Backup

A single charge can last for about four to five weeks, so you really don’t have to worry about charging it frequently.

4. Save’s Physical Space

A Kindle can hold thousands of books, which would be impossible to achieve with actual books. It saves time and money as you don’t need to build a bookshelves to keep all your collection.

5. Your Books Stays Forever with you

Physical books have a self life and it depreciates over time. No need to worry now if the edges of your books getting folded or getting tampered.

With Kindle your books stays with you forever in the cloud, even if you loose your Kindle all your books will be available in your amazon account. You can sync it by logging it on a new Kindle device.

6. Perfect Travel Companion

Its your best travelling partner.

It’s small, lightweight and easy to carry in your backpack.

Saves a lot of space and now you don’t have to worry about which book to carry on your next trip as you can carry all your collection at the same time.

7. You can Read In the Dark

Whether you want to read after dark on your way back from work or just before going to bed when your lights are off, the Kindle Paperwhite is just perfect because of its back-lit screen.

You can also adjust the brightness of the screen based on your convenience.

8. Kindle Books are Usually Cheaper

Based on my observation, the Kindle versions of most books are considerably cheaper than their paperback and hardcover editions.

In the long run, I suppose the price difference makes up for the cost of buying the Kindle device.

The books are delivered instantly on your Kindle device as you purchase. So you save on delivery charges and time.

9. Improve your Vocabulary

Just touch and hold the word for a few second and voila you have the meaning of the word right in front of you.

Kindle has an in-built dictionary from the New Oxford American Dictionary to provide instant definition look-ups while you read.

All the words looked up in the dictionary are automatically added to your Vocabulary Builder to enable you to remember the new words you learn.

10. Access to Free E-Books

There is a large collection of books that are available entirely free of charge, including classics and self-published books.

Also, you can download the sample books before buying them, which is very similar to browsing through a book at an actual bookstore.

11. Share Books with Friends and Family

With the Kindle, you can easily lend books to other people who have an Amazon account, without you having to worry about them not returning the book to you.

The book is loaned for a pre-determined period of time, during which you don’t have access to it, and then it will be returned to you.

In short, you’ll always get your books back if you share them on Kindle!

So if you’re in the dilemma about buying the Kindle like I was, I’d definitely recommend you go for it because the Kindle has changed my life for the better. Its worth the investment.

I carry Kindle all the time with me just as I carry my phone.

I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy reading from something that wasn’t a physical book, but it literally took me less than an hour to get used to and enjoy reading on a Kindle.

I use the Kindle Paperwhite(recommended) but if you’re looking for something cheaper, check out the All-New Kindle E-reader (it has the same features as the Paperwhite except for the back-lit screen and little less PPI), and if you’re willing to spend a little more, the Voyage and the Oasis(waterproof) are good options.
